Avoiding unwanted companions in bed
We protect you against dust mites
Dust mites are tiny creatures that, strangely enough, love to feed on substances shed by our bodies, such as dead skin debris or small particles of fat.
They are not visible to the naked eye, but they usually live in areas where we spend a lot of time, such as our mattress, bedding or pillows.
Dust mite allergy causes severe difficulties in many people’s sleep, producing annoying symptoms such as itchy skin, sneezing, itchy nose or chest tightness. If this is your case, to combat it naturally, we recommend being very rigorous with dust at home, especially avoiding it being stored in carpets, upholstery or duvets, and ventilating regularly.
Did you know that dust mites spread in high temperatures and humidity? Their favourite habitat is above 20ºC and above 65% humidity. In addition, they prefer dark and closed or poorly ventilated places, so they only survive indoors.

VELFONT TIPS
Fighting dust mites at last
Symptoms of dust mite allergy include a runny nose and sneezing. Don’t know how to differentiate it from a cold? If symptoms persist for more than a week, then it is likely to be an allergy.
As we have said, dust mites feed on particles of our dead skin, but what actually causes the allergy? These pesky organisms generate tiny faeces that float in the air and, when inhaled, are the cause of most allergies affecting the respiratory tract: asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis and eczema.
Do you want to know how to combat them?
Here are 3 essential tips!
1
Act against dust mites
Use anti-dust mite products in your bed linen with treatments that have a permanent effect and are resistant to repeated washing. Our Acarsan Natural® anti-dust mite range acts directly against dust mites in a 100% natural way.
2
Air and ventilate your room
Ventilate your room every day – ten minutes is enough!
Don’t make the bed automatically when you get up, let it air out first.
3
Wash your bed linen frequently
If you do not use anti-dust mite products, wash sheets, blankets, pillowcases, bed covers and soft toys weekly at a minimum temperature of 60ºC.
Getting rid of dust mites is no easy task! Without proper guidelines, the allergens may disappear temporarily, but dust mites will survive and produce more allergens over time.
Here are our cleaning tips to get rid of dust mites:
- Use a damp cloth instead of a dry one to wipe off dust and prevent it from spreading.
- Vacuum regularly. Better still if it is a double-layer bag with a microfilter or HEPA filter to trap the smallest specks and particles.
- Reduce the humidity level in your home by using a dehumidifier or air conditioner.
- The loss of its initial shape and the appearance of small deformations such as sagging is a clear sign that it is no longer a suitable mattress or pillow
- Get rid of carpets, upholstered furniture, rugs and curtains.
- Less is more! Get rid of clutter and tidy up your room. Get rid of as many books, magazines, ornaments and soft toys as possible.
- Much to our regret, we recommend that you do not have furry or feathered pets at home.
- Clean the room regularly and remember to check hard-to-reach corners often.
